Come join trombonist Ben Williams and special guests for MUSIC WITH TBONE & FRIENDS, as we explore the many joys of music in this unique hands-on class. Using live and recorded examples, the students will experience the inner workings of music in a relaxed atmosphere, and will get in some music making (and instrument building!) fun of their own. Some sample activities include rhythm games, instrument demonstrations, hearing stories of music and musicians, exposure to music both new and unfamiliar, and how to "think like a musician." Each student will receive a CD of the music we will cover for the whole family to enjoy! The class is led by musician and educator Ben Williams, a professional jazz trombonist who has been teaching his innovative approach to music to children of all ages and abilities for more than 20 years. He gives private brass lessons out of his home in Maplewood to students ages 5-21. He leads group and individual instruction at the Hudson School in Hoboken, Newark Academy in Livingston, Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel Iris Preschool in South Orange, among others. He co-created and produces educational programs including the “Music for Kids” series in Maplewood, the in-school music education series “Taking Chances,” and HiTops jazz education and improvisation instruction series, and Instrumental Music Camp run by Maplewood Community Music.

In this hands-on and engaging program SCRAP HAPPY JR., children will create with their own hands a beautiful keepsake journal of their lives to be treasured for years to come. This class integrates language arts with tactile arts and crafts based activities. We'll use the children's own experiences as a focus of creative expression. The class is theme based to encompass learning from movement, math, and music components of the whole Red Rainbow program. Lorraine Labonne-Storch (M.S.
